Trust, Self-realization, Men, & Romance
August 15, 2008It’s good to have power…
August 21, 2008I was looking for a book I wanted to read last night. Couldn’t find it. It didn’t help that my book collection has become woefully unorganized in the past few months.
What used to be a beautifully arranged collection spanning six bookcases had become piles of books that had little organization to them. Well, the originally placed books still were in place, but new books had been stacked in front of those tidy little stacks, and some books were in boxes scattered around my home, waiting for their own place on the bookshelves.
So the inability to find that ONE book I wanted last night launched a manic reorganization job. I’ve been meaning to do it for some time, but other things always seemed more important.
I worked on it last night some, this morning more and then had to stop to do some work for my job. My living room floor was literally covered in books while I had the piled in groups by alphabet all over the floor, tackling one letter at a time.
Finally, I am done. Unfortunately, I now have to stack them two layers deep on the shelves in places, but that’s OK. I can still find them now. And I have photos for posterity.
My romance novels that are not anthologies are in two bookcases.
My romance anthologies are in one shorter bookcase. Oh, and the bottom left corner has a few nonfiction books like puzzle books, mindteasers, dictionaries, etc.
I have a bookcase in the guest bedroom that has my classics like William Shakespeare, Brothers Grimm, Mythology, etc. It also has mystery, humor, autobiorgraphies, and a hodge-podge of other genres. I also put a few romance authors here since I had a lot of books by Brenda Joyce and Bertrice Small and didn’t have room on the romance bookcases for them. Oh, and one shelf has two little stacks of books I’ve borrowed from a friend. I have GOT to read those and get them back to her.
This bookcase is just fantasy, sci-fi and horror.
Last but not least, I have one bookcase with just cookbooks. I’m considering moving those to a rubbermaid container in the garage, though. I’ve already done that with my computer books.

Holy Crow, woman! 😯 And I thought I had too many books! 😀 LOL Way to go with the organization!
LOL, I never give them up. I don’t turn them in to used bookstores.
And that’s just what I’ve amassed since Hurricane Opal. I lost all of my books in the hurricane.
Oh, and there are a few more spread throughout the house on nightstands, coffee tables, end tables, bathrooms, etc. Those are coffee table books, art books, and bathroom readers.
See what happens when you have no hubby or kids to curtail your book habit?
I don’t have one either, but I have this weird anti-clutter neurosis. Unless the book is fabulous, I don’t keep it. I have a TON of books… but unless it’s a ‘keeper’, I don’t. You could open a small book shop, should you choose to go that way for a second career. Speaking of which, have you given that any more thought?
Still working on that second career thing…
The problem with owning a book shop is that I have a hard time giving books up.
But when I kick the bucket, someone is going to make a fortune off of my book collection! LOL
I had to give up some of my books when we were planning a move. I don’t have near as many print books now. You’re welcome to come organize them though. 😀
Oooh, I love the look of your bookshelves. I too was looking for a book the other day in my massive pile, but despite the half hour it took me, it didn’t prompt me into organizing them. LOL
Looks great, Jenn!
Wow. Where can I sign up for a library card? 😉
Wow! Fabulous job.
I don’t have that many books. Too many moves and too many years of working at a bookstore where I read books, but didn’t have to buy them. LOL
Nicole, I can’t even think of having to give any of them up, but I know that day will come. *shudders*
Cathryn, thanks os much! It actually took me longer than a half hour to find the book I needed… LOL And I’d been planning to make time for this organization soon anyway, so this served as a perfect impetus.
Meg, I could probably fill a real library soon! LOL If I ever win the lottery, I WiLL have a room that is just for books, complete with sliding ladder.
N.J. I am so jealous. Of course, I would never be able to keep a job in a bookstore. I’d be far too distracted by the books! LOL
