When Bad Things Happen at Good Restaurants

August 13, 2008[amazonify]0765360411:right[/amazonify] I had the very great privilege of reading an Advance Bound Manuscript (ABM) of S.J. Day’s upcoming paranormal release from Tor, EVE OF DARKNESS. After finishing the first book in what will be a new trilogy, I am even more excited than I already was about it!
See, S.J. Day is a new pen name for an author who is already on my favorites list, Sylvia Day. I’ve loved both the historical romances and paranormal romances that she has published under that name, and this new series takes her to a whole new level with a story that is a bit edgier than we have yet seen from this talented writer.
ANd edgy is VERY good.
Eve is an interior decorator until one decidely strange and life-altering encounter. That encounter brings the one man she could never forget back into her life.
And then the REALLY weird stuff starts happening. Turns out she is now some sort of super demon-slayer working for none other than God himself. OK, so she reports to one of his archangels, not directly to the Lord, but that’s who she works for nonetheless.
Oh, and she starts seeing demons. Like, EVERYWHERE. Worse, she can smell them. Ew.
By the way, guess who her mentor is? Yep, the ex-boyfriend who walked out on her years ago. The one she has quite a bit of trouble resisting despite that. Oh yeah, and his brother is the guy that handles all her assignments.
Did I mention those brothers are none other than Cain and Able? Yes, THAT Cain and Able. And they still don’t get along. But they fill out an intriguing little love triangle with Eve…
EVE OF DARKNESS is one highly addictive, sexy paranormal with a great slant on an age-old story. There are three books planned in the MARKED series, and they will release back-to-back in 2009.
- EVE OF DARKNESS – May 2009
- EVE OF DESTRUCTION – June 2009
- EVE OF CHAOS – July 2009
I think the decision to release each of these books so close together is a brilliant one. These books are more like a serial than the standard series. I liken it to J.R.R. Tolkien’s LORD OF THE RINGS books in that they feel like sections of one big story, but each have a sense of closure for that part of the story even though there are still some major mysteries yet to be unraveled in the later books.
I know I for one will be eating these stories up.
Oh, the first one is already available for pre-order at Amazon.com. Click the Amazon link on the right side of this post to see the product page for EVE OF DARKNESS at Amazon.com!
Like I said before, I read an ABM, which is not the same as an ARC, so this is not an official review. When the release date for EVE OF DARKNESS is closer, I’ll be reading a finished copy or an ARC (crosses fingers!) and writing an official review for Wild on Books. Meanwhile, enjoy an official excerpt in the widget below from S.J. Day.
