My Smyrna
I left Nashville, TN and moved to Smyrna, TN in October 2012.Quite honestly, I'd tried hard to stay in Nashville since I work there and it was more central to my friends, to my social life, everything. But I couldn't find anything in Nashville that fit both my budget and my needs at the time, and so I moved to Smyrna. The housing prices were much more reasonable here, and the quality of life is definitely better than it was in the Nashville neighborhood I used to live in. The crime rate is lower here, police response is faster in Smyrna than in Nashville, and I've enjoyed my life here very much. One of the first things I noticed was that my Smyrna neighborhood was so quiet all the time, and that is still true six years later. While I have to travel a bit to get to things in Nashville, the essentials are available within Smyrna, within three miles of my home.
The Malco movie theater here is probably one of the best I've been to in Tennessee. The customer service is excellent, the seats have more leg room than other theaters, and the refreshments are very good.
Within minutes of my front door, there are six, count them, six grocery stores: Super Target, Super Wal-Mart, Food Lion, Kroger, and 2 Publix. It is rare that I am not able to get the groceries I need pretty quickly.
The Town of Smyrna has a number of events for citizens to enjoy: Farmers Market in the spring and summer, Depot Days events, Easter Egg Hunts, Easter Buffet, and much more. They even have several nice parks, one of which has a great splash pad for kids, greenways, a golf course, sports complex...
Have I mentioned that my neighborhoods utility lines are underground? In the six years I've lived in this house, I've never lost power for any significant length of time, no matter the weather. Outside of a few quick power fluctuations, I think I've had one thirty-minute outage. Color me very satisfied on that.
